The claims of the neighbors due to the conditions of urban transportation in Cipolletti increase daily. Lack of frequency, lack of maintenance, few units and high ticket prices are some of the shortcomings faced by the city’s residents. RÍO NEGRO spoke with transport users to listen to their demands.

For months, the residents of Cipolletti have expressed their discontent against the provision of the urban transportation service carried out by the Pehuenche company. Users demand improvements in the conditions of the units and greater frequency, especially towards the neighborhoods furthest from the city center.

BLACK RIVER spoke with neighbors who use the public transportation service daily, who stated that the complaints have to do with him units status. They request a better service, more frequent routes, responsibility in compliance with schedules and, above all, better treatment of the drivers. They emphasize that with a high ticket price, the service is poor.

In the story, the residents of the northwest of the city stated that they receive mistreatment by the drivers and that they do not comply with the routes or stops established by the municipality. They also don’t comply with schedules. They assure that the units do not have ramps for people with reduced mobility.

Weeks ago, The residents of the neighborhoods in the riverside and surrounding area presented a note to complain about the poor service provided by the Pehuenche company.. These are citizens of the 2 de Agosto neighborhood, Costa Sur and Norte, Labraña and Médanos. ANDThe note expresses the question about the North Coast – Northeast Neighborhood District branch, to which the company only allocated two units. This means that the wait is long and that failures increase.

«It works in a very poor way, the buses frequently break down so sometimes they cannot even finish their journey. The passengers have had to abandon the units,” said one of the neighbors. Furthermore, adding to the discontent is that the last lap of the route takes place at 9 p.m.

During peak times, first thing in the morning, noon and evening, the bus units are filled to capacity, generating “overcrowding and low travel quality” according to the neighbors’ story. There are numerous inconveniences that they claim to experience daily and are already tired of waiting for solutions that do not arrive, despite their need.

In the Manzanar area and Anai Mapu neighborhood the service also works poorly. The neighbors say that “they walk at any time, they treat you as if you didn’t pay for the ticket, they are arrogant and poorly educated.” On Jordan Island they are without service during the weekends.

Months ago, the municipality announced the possible purchase of new units to overcome these shortcomings claimed by residents who use the urban transportation service. From the inspection area they assured that this is not going to happen, at least not under the management of the current mayor Claudio Di Tella.

At the end of this year, the contract that the Pehuenche company has with the municipality expires, an agreement that was extended several times. “It will be the task of the new management to re-tender the urban transportation service, which will surely come with new units,” they expressed.

It will then be the task of the elected mayor, Rodrigo Buteler, to solve one of the biggest shortcomings that the town of Cipolletti has: public transportation.
