Peking (ots/PRNewswire) This is a report from China Daily:

Qinghai Province, in northwestern China, is located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, known as the “third pole of the Earth.” This region plays a critical role in ecological security in Asia and around the world. Through its decade-long efforts, the province has become a model for building an ecological civilization and harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

Qinghai is the fourth largest province in China by area and is home to the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow River and Lancang River. It is also known for its rich hydro, solar and wind energy resources. Blue skies, green mountains and clear water are among the region’s characteristic landscapes.

The Three-River-Source National Park in Qinghai was one of the first national parks in China. It has a unique ecosystem and great biodiversity in high-altitude regions.

Qinghai Lake is the largest inland lake and the largest salt lake in China. Data from 2021 shows that Qinghai Lake’s water area has increased by nearly 220 square kilometers over the past decade.

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Ecological Protection Law came into force on September 1 as part of efforts to regulate ecological protection on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at the national level.

The data shows that populations of endangered species such as snow leopards, Tibetan antelopes, Tibetan gazelles and black-necked cranes have increased year on year.

Qinghai also has a lot of desert and wasteland, making the prospect of clean energy development promising. The abundant solar, water and wind energy is used in Qinghai by building photovoltaic systems and hybrid power plants.

At the end of 2022, the province’s installed power generation capacity reached 44.68 million kilowatts, of which 91.2 percent or 40.75 million kW came from clean energy. And 28.14 million kW, or 62.9 percent, come from new energies.

Through ultra-high voltage channels, green electricity from Qinghai powers Beijing Daxing International Airport and will also power the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou.

“We fully understand that the Three River Sources Region and the “Water Tower” belong not only to Qinghai but also to the entire nation and the world. Qinghai Province is committed to building ecological security barriers here, green development and build a community with a shared future for people and nature,” Qinghai Party Secretary Chen Gang said at an event to promote Qinghai’s ecological civilization development in Xining in September.

About 150 foreign representatives from nearly 30 countries were invited to this event in Qinghai to learn regarding Qinghai’s achievements in building an ecological civilization and promoting harmony between people and nature.

Leaders of political parties from various countries stressed the importance of cooperation between nations to protect the ecological environment, saying China has embarked on a path of modernization that promotes harmony between people and nature.
