Vienna (OTS) – Today, Friday, Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig received the “Three Kings” for a traditional visit in the Red Salon in the town hall. Star singers from the Maria-Drei-Kirchen parish on Rennweg in the 3rd district brought the blessing for the new year. This time Flora, Luisa, Jannis and Severin were in the costumes of Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar as well as the star. A total of 100 children are active as star singers in the large parish. They were accompanied by representatives of the Catholic Youth Group. After songs, poems and blessings, the children were treated to refreshments and a monetary donation from the mayor as a sign of solidarity for the approximately 500 Epiphany Aid projects worldwide.
Mayor Ludwig, who was once active as a star singer in the Alt-Lerchenfeld parish, was delighted with the visit of the “Holy Kings”: “I would like to thank you for the great commitment that is shown here year following year. This year we can also look forward to an anniversary, the 70th year of the Epiphany campaign. Especially in difficult times, cohesion, cooperation and solidarity are of the utmost importance,” said Ludwig.
This year we are specifically supporting projects in Guatemala, Central America. Around 60 percent of the people there live in abject poverty. It is all the more gratifying that, according to the star singers, the Viennese’s willingness to donate remains unbroken.
Every year, more than 85,000 children from 3,000 parishes in Austria are out and regarding as part of the Catholic Youth Group’s Epiphany campaign and ask the population to help those in need in poor regions of the world. Around 500 aid projects are supported every year. The focus in 2024 is aid for Guatemala. This year the campaign celebrates its 70th anniversary.
