As reported by the ministry, the title of the best librarian of 2023 was awarded to Ramuna Balčikoniena, head of the communication department of the Lithuanian Audiosensory Library.

Edita Urbonavičienė, director of the Kaunas County Public Library, won the title of the best library manager last year.

Urtė Šulskienė, cultural project manager of the Library Methodology Department of Povilas Višinskis Public Library of Šiauliai County, was awarded the best name of the young librarian.

Congratulating the country’s best librarians, Minister of Culture Simonas Kairys was happy that this community not only responds sensitively to the needs of citizens, but also does not stay away from the issue of helping Ukraine and Ukrainians.

“The best response to the visible aggression and evil is to simply continue with your work, to live a full European life. I wish libraries to remain both a shelter from worries and a place of human development”, S. Kairys is quoted in the report.

In the Lithuanian National Library of Martynas Mažvydas, the first protocol of intentions of Lithuanian library associations was also signed on Tuesday regarding cooperation in implementing the goals of the country’s educational and cultural policy, strengthening the library network.

According to the M. Mažvydas library, the letter of intent was signed by all seven national library associations – the Lithuanian Librarians’ Association, the Association of Municipal Public Libraries, the Association of County Public Libraries, the Association of Lithuanian Research Libraries, the Association of Directors of Lithuanian Academic Libraries, the Association of Lithuanian College Libraries and Lithuanian School Library Workers associations – managers.

They agreed to promote dialogue between science and society, develop “citizen science” projects, work together to implement the National Lithuanian Libraries Week, strengthen people’s ability to critically evaluate information, civic activity, and resistance to information threats.

“It is particularly important to note that this agreement will create excellent conditions for strengthening the professional cooperation and open, systematic and constructive dialogue of librarians from various sectors,” the report quoted the Director General of the National Library, Aušrinė Žilinskienė.
