In these terms the director of the FBI of USAChristopher Wray, in a colloquium at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University (USA) in which Ken McCallum, from the British MI5, David Vigneault, from the Canadian CSIS, Mike Burgess, from ASIO in Australia, and Andrew Hampton, from NZSIS of New Zealand.

The five countries form a network to share intelligence information at the highest level called Five Eyes. And the five responsible agreed to highlight the threat of China. In this debate moderated by former Secretary of State Condolezza Rice, Wray assured that China threatens governments, companies and institutions around the world.

“There is no greater threat to innovation than the Chinese government,” added Wray in a scenario in which New Zealand was also present.

“The most sophisticated and sustained theft of intellectual property”

The director of the FBI pointed out that the seriousness of the situation is of such magnitude that the intelligence officials of the five countries had decided to appear together publicly on the stage of the Hoover Institution, something he described as “unprecedented.”

“A sign of how seriously we take that threat is that we have decided to show up together to raise awareness and work together with the private sector to better protect innovation especially in a place like Northern California but really in all five countries,” Wray explained. ASIO director Mike Burgess added that China’s activities go “beyond traditional espionage.”

“We have the Chinese government involved in the most sophisticated and sustained intellectual property theft in human history,” he explained. In this sense, Wray stated that China has the largest computer hacking program in the world of such magnitude that it exceeds all the activities carried out by the rest of the countries combined.
