The latter is distinguished by the fact that it projects a quantity of flammable material and oxygen.
“With the ignition, it will make a huge ball of fire and a return of pressure which makes a form of vacuum. It is extremely harmful for human beings,” explains former military intelligence officer Simon Leduc.
And this type of weapon is quite common in the Russian army, says Mr. Leduc.
It’s found in rocket launchers and specialized weapon systems, including the TOS-1, which Simon Leduc describes as “a big box full of destruction.”
“The Russians use these systems to destroy opposition, particularly infantry opposition,” he says.
These weapons, he says, are not prohibited by international conventions.
Moreover, the American army used it in Afghanistan. Nevertheless, the Russians have made these devastating weapons a hallmark of their offensive, argues Mr. Leduc.
