AUSTIN, Texas, March 27, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — EPLive 2024 is a two-day conference bringing together the world’s leading experts in cardiac electrophysiology

On April 18 and 19, 2024, the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute (TCAI) will host its seventh international symposium on complex cardiac arrhythmias, EPLive 2024, at St. David’s Medical Center.

EPLive is an intensive, two-day educational event for physicians and nurses focused on treating complex cardiac arrhythmias, in which the heart beats in an irregular or abnormal rhythm. Live cases, broadcast with expert commentary from the state-of-the-art electrophysiology center at St. David’s Medical Center, serve as the primary teaching tool.

“The Texas Cardiac Arrythmia Institute is honored to bring together the world’s leading experts in cardiac electrophysiology to present live and recorded cases that demonstrate the achievements and future of our field,” said Andrea Natale, MD, FHRS, FACC, FESC , cardiac electrophysiologist and chief medical director of TCAI and EPLive course instructor. “The cases demonstrating advances in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias will help further improve outcomes for patients worldwide.”

Cardiac arrhythmias are caused by problems with the heart’s electrical system. While many cardiac arrhythmias are treated with advanced ablation techniques that use extreme heat or cold to destroy target areas associated with the cardiac arrhythmia, EPLive will focus on pulsed field ablation (PFA). This form of ablation, the latest advance in electrophysiology, produces high-frequency electrical pulses to attack the muscle cells that cause irregular heart rhythms, without using excessive heat or cold. The non-thermal approach does not damage the surrounding tissue and therefore improves patient outcomes.

Atrial fibrillation (A Fib) cases, including PFA, form one of the four sections of the conference. EPLive will also feature ventricular tachycardia (VT) cases, left atrial appendage (LAA) closure cases and devices, and new technologies. Sessions will consist of a combination of live and recorded cases from TCAI and some of the world’s leading centers: Cleveland Clinic, Houston Methodist, Kansas City Heart Rhythm Institute, Massachusetts General, MedStar Health (Washington, DC), Mt. Sinai Hospital (New York), Mozina Heart Center (Italy), St. Bernard’s Heart and Vascular Center (Arkansas), UC Health Center (Colorado), University of Chicago Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Vancouver General Hospital (Canada) .

The conference will also focus on a number of objectives including:

Identify methods to reduce complications and promote patient safety measures during A-fib ablation and other cardiac arrhythmias. Demonstrate understanding of the latest evidence and guidelines for the management of cardiac arrhythmias and treatment with new technologies. Applying approaches that are proven to best utilize new technologies to optimize clinical outcomes. Identify processes that can benefit from the integration of new technologies and promote safer practices for the patient. Identify procedures to reduce complications and promote patient safety measures during lead extraction in complex cardiac device implants.

In addition to Dr. Natale will also feature several TCAI physicians presenting at EPLive, including course co-director Dr. Amin Al-Ahmad, Dr. Mohamed Bassiouny, Dr. David Burkland, Dr. Robert Canby, Dr. Joseph Gallinghouse, Dr. Rodney Horton, Dr. Patrick Hranitzky, and Dr. Jason Zagrodzky.

Physicians will receive a maximum of 14.5 American Medical Association (AMA) Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1 Credit™ hours at the conference.

The Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute has the premier robotic electrophysiology center in North America. Opened in 2019, the 72,000-square-foot center includes six electrophysiology laboratories equipped with advanced technology for the treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias. One of the largest electrophysiology practices in the United States, the Institute’s team of world-renowned physicians provides unparalleled experience, expertise and exceptional care.
