The Association for collective transport of Laval (ATCL) and the Association for collective transport of the South Shore (ATCRS) are dissatisfied with the reduction in fares for taking the metro in Laval and Longueuil which was proposed on 25 August, by the Regional Metropolitan Transport Authority of unit tariffs.
From 1is October, the price of the unit securities All AB modes will go from $5.25 to $4.50. The same goes for the set of 10 passes, which will be reduced to $42.50, a reduction of $2.50 compared to the current rate.
However, these are temporary adjustments, since the ARTM plans to gradually raise the rate to the initial $5.25 by 2025.
Axel Fournier, spokesman for the ATCRS, believes that this drop is “window dressing”.
“Users must always obtain two separate titles,” he adds, specifying that the unit fare to take the metro from Montreal has remained at $3.50. In addition, more than 10,000 people signed a citizen petition denouncing the different metro fares depending on the zone.
Solutions
Nicolas Lemire, president of the ATCL, thus asked the ARTM to act quickly to find a solution.
“We want a commitment […] to quickly implement a solution aligned with its objective of promoting the use of public and active transport, he insists in a press release. The inclusion of all metro stations in zone A, combined with revised pricing for incentive parking, is an example of a coherent proposal that can be applied in the short term.
“The Authority complicates people’s lives and maintains its intention to increase the tariff. This is not how it will bring traffic back to the metro, ”adds Mr. Fournier. (N.P.)
