The TEC is looking for more than 500 drivers: the salary is attractive, “but you have to like the change in the schedules”

The TEC is looking for more than 500 drivers this year. The work is demanding, but the salary is attractive and the drivers will receive paid training: the TEC is organizing 5 “job days” across Wallonia, including one this Monday, in Houdeng.

Didier is 32 years old, and he is one of the candidates for the post of bus driver. For the first time, he sits in the driver’s seat. This salesman lost his job because of the crisis and he wants to find a new job without delay.

I feel good, I feel safe“, he explains, behind the wheel. “A new career is offered to me, and why not at the TEC“For the moment, for maneuvers, it is Mélanie who takes the wheel: a fulfilled driver for three years, she knows the job and its requirements.

We do mornings, we do followingnoons, and there are also cut schedules: you have to like change“, she explains.”It takes a lot of concentration and it’s a huge responsibility to have so many people on the bus.“.

The TEC has 3,300 drivers, but there are departures and new lines that require new drivers: the training is paid. “If you already have the D license, and the TEC will offer you a little training and three months later, you are at work. But if you only have the B license, the training will be a little longer and it will take six months“, explains Marie-Kristine Vanbockestal, general administrator of FOREM.

Salary following training: more than 2,500 euros gross, and benefits, such as the free TEC course. “People of any age can apply for the TEC, whether you are 25 or 55“.
