“The TB-001: China’s Latest Military Drone Conducts First Surveillance Flight Around Taiwan”

2023-05-01 17:00:22

One of the Chinese military’s largest drones has flown around Taiwan for the first time. Military experts told CNN that “the drone can carry large weapons, and its primary purpose is continuous surveillance.”

“It was done simply for show, to try to give the impression that Taiwan was surrounded,” said David Hambling, a military technology writer.

Chinese state media identified the drone as the TB-001, nicknamed the “twin-tailed scorpion”, which is capable of long-range missions at high altitudes.

It can travel up to 6,000 km / 3,728 miles – that’s the distance from London to New York. CNN reporter Will Ripley reports.
