The next Windows 11 task manager will save a copy of the memory corresponding to the system in a file, in order to transmit it to Microsoft technical support in the event of a problem. It can also limit the resources consumed by a process.
The next major Windows 11 update should be released in the coming weeks. Among other things, it will include a new version of the task manager. This version inherits the new graphic charter from Microsoft, but also a new function, which can be very useful if you encounter problems with the operating system. Indeed, it will be possible to generate a Dump the system directly from the task manager, as shown in the screenshot below:
And Dump is a backup to a file of the contents of RAM, corresponding to the kernel or the entire system. It usually occurs in the event of a critical system error, which results in a blue screen of death (BSOD). The advantage here is to be able to generate it whenever you want from the task manager, to then send it to Microsoft technical support.
Limit the resources consumed by a process
For a given process, you can define its priority, but also activate the mode Efficiency which automatically limits the use of system resources. This mode is particularly useful if you want to save battery on your laptop.
The new version of the task manager will benefit from a menu on the left side, with the main tools, as well as a more modern graphical rendering, thanks to Microsoft’s Fluent Design system.
It will also be possible to activate the dark theme and the new virtual material Mica will make it possible to match the background of the application with the pattern of the desktop. Finally, the task manager will be easier to use with touch screens, for example on Microsoft’s Surface tablet PCs.
