(CNN) – The Israeli army stated that the missile that struck Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, on Friday, was “erroneously launched by terrorist organizations inside the Gaza Strip,” while Hamas said that the missile came from the Israeli army.

IDF spokesman Richard Hecht said in a statement sent to CNN: “Earlier today, the IDF received reports that the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City had been hit, and the Hamas-run media office in the Gaza Strip immediately claimed that this was A strike carried out by the Israeli army.

He added: “After the army examined its operational systems, it indicated that an errant missile fired by terrorist organizations inside the Gaza Strip hit Al-Shifa Hospital.”

He added that the shell was “targeting the Israeli forces present in the vicinity.”

Several videos appeared on social media, earlier Friday, showing wounded people lying on the floor of the outpatient clinic of Al-Shifa Hospital following the raid.

A World Health Organization spokesman said, in a press conference, that Al-Shifa Hospital was “being bombed.”

The Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, condemned what he described as a “horrific” attack on Al-Shifa Hospital.

“Horrific reports of attacks on Al-Shifa Hospital are coming from Gaza today,” Griffiths said on the “X” platform, highlighting “the extent to which the lives of thousands of patients, staff and displaced civilians are at risk following the attack.”
