The tanker Delta Blue was attacked two more times

The crew and vessel are safe and continuing to their next station, UKMTO said.

The most recent incidents include an attack by an unmanned surface vessel and another by a missile that landed near the ship, UKMTO said.

Yesterday, Thursday, the ship’s captain reported that two small boats approached and fired an anti-tank rocket that exploded near the Liberian-flagged Delta Blue, about 45 nautical miles south of Moha.

Each small boat carried four people, UKMTO said.

Hours later, another rocket exploded near the tanker, it said.

The managing company of the tanker in question is Delta Tankers, based in Athens, the Reuters news agency notes, citing data from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). The company has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for comment.

Since last November, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have frequently launched attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea region in a show of solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, following the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas.

The Houthi attacks – which have prompted the US and Britain to launch strikes in Yemen – are disrupting international trade, with many companies sending their ships on longer and more expensive voyages around southern Africa to avoid crossing the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
