The Taliban’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaki, said that the new government in Afghanistan is close to the goal of being internationally recognized, stressing that the decisions of the new regime are not taken “under pressure from anyone” but according to its policy.
In his first press interview since returning from talks the Taliban held with Western countries in Oslo, Mottaki called on Washington to unlock the Central Bank’s assets to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
At the end of January, Norway hosted talks between the Taliban and Western countries, the first on the territory of a Western country, where they discussed the humanitarian crisis afflicting Afghanistan and human rights issues, especially women’s rights. No country has yet recognized the Taliban government, and Norway confirmed that the talks do not constitute any kind of recognition, but the movement finds positive steps towards breaking the isolation imposed on it, following its return to power in August with the completion of the withdrawal of US and foreign forces from the country and following a bloody conflict It lasted 20 years.
