Tseng Shu-hui, deputy director general of the Centers for Disease Control, said that the vaccine is expected to be available by the end of this September, hopefully before the long weekend of the Mid-Autumn Festival from next Friday until October 1. Where people aged 65 years or older have priority.

He added, “Our long-term surveillance data indicates that most serious cases associated with “Covid-19″ are in people aged 65 years or older.”

The “XBP5.1” variant was discovered in October 2022, and belongs to a subset of the Omicron variant that spread at the end of 2021.

The “XBP5.1” mutant had a mutation that helped it overcome the body’s immune defenses, but this same characteristic also reduced its ability to infect human cells.
