The Swiss women’s team celebrated their first World Championship success in Canada in their third match. The Swiss won 4-3 once morest Japan following trailing 2-3.
After defeats once morest the overpowered Canada (0-4) and United States (1-9), the Swiss selection showed great moral resources once morest the Japanese. Trailing 0-2, coach Colin Muller’s players managed to equalize in 21 seconds in the second period. Even the Asians’ third goal didn’t faze them. During the third period, team leaders Alina Müller (48th) and Lara Stalder (51st) took advantage of the weaknesses of the Japanese door to succeed in returning the score.
The Swiss will play their last match on Tuesday and Wednesday night once morest the Czech Republic. A success would assure them the third place of the group and also a good situation in the quarter-finals since all the teams of group A are already qualified.
