Scheduled for this fall, the Swiss Cyberhub event, which was to take place in Fribourg, will not take place. The organizer explains.
Announced as a new Swiss event dedicated to cybersecurity, the Swiss Cyberhub was scheduled for autumn 2023. But this meeting scheduled for October 12 and 13, 2023 at the Forum Friborg will ultimately not take place. In a press release, the organizer, the Digivolution foundation, explains that the event will be redesigned and carried out in a new format. The foundation cites three factors that led it to change its mind: “an in-depth reassessment of the needs of Swiss players in the face of the challenges of digital change, the continuous evolution towards a polycrisis as well as the inflation of cyber events next fall.” As a reminder, the Swiss Cyber Security Days will take place this year in September, in Bern.
Questioned by the German-speaking editorial staff of our publisher Netzmedien, Gérald Vernez, president of Digivolution, justifies this sudden change of direction. He admits that a full risk analysis has not been carried out in recent months and speaks of a manifest error. “Recent developments, including the financial crisis and the social crisis in Europe, had not been taken into account until then. The complete analysis shows with a high probability a negative trend over 6 to 9 months”, specifies Gérald Vernez. This results in a financial risk for organizers and exhibitors, and therefore a reputational risk for all parties involved.
In the announcement of the change of plan, the organizer also mentions the recently adopted national cyber strategy. This advocates decentralization and the concept of the Swiss Cyberhub no longer adequately meets this intention. “The theme and the desired resilience rightly do not require large, confused events, but a targeted and regional presence throughout the year,” specifies the president of Digivolution. Before explaining that the decision to cancel the event has no consequences in terms of staff and on the partners.
