The suspect arrested after the shooting which left one dead and four injured, all minors, Thursday October 31, in Poitiers, was indicted on the evening of Thursday November 7 for murder, announced the prosecution. This 25-year-old man, considered the alleged shooter, “was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention”said the Poitiers public prosecutor, Cyril Lacombe, in a press release.
The suspect went to the police on Tuesday in Paris, where he was taken into custody. He was then transferred to Poitiers to be presented to an investigating judge with a view to opening a judicial investigation for “assassination, attempted assassinations, possession of weapons and drug trafficking”. His identity, which could be verified, “corresponds to that of the alleged perpetrator of the shooting who was the subject of a search warrant issued by the Poitiers public prosecutor’s office”said the prosecutor.

According to the prosecution, the man is already known to the courts for drug trafficking and violence. He was also indicted for possession of weapons in Marseille, according to a police source. The search warrant issued by the prosecution targeted a man who “would have engaged in the sale of narcotics” in the Couronneries district, site of the shooting which occurred on the evening of October 31.
A link with drug trafficking in Marseille, according to Bruno Retailleau
During a search of a home he allegedly occupied, seven rounds of ammunition of the same caliber as the eleven found at the scene of the attack, as well as “partial elements of a disassembled weapon”were seized by the police. The shooting occurred in front of a kebab restaurant, while a Halloween party organized by an association had brought together many young people nearby.
Commenting on the facts, Friday, November 1 in the morning, on BFM-TV and RMC, the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, wrongly declared that“a brawl between rival gangs” then opposed “several hundred people”. According to the police and the prosecutor’s office, brief scuffles only involved a few dozen people among the crowd present and the police put an end to them quickly.

Thursday, November 7, the Minister of the Interior established a link between this file and drug trafficking in the Marseille area. “Behind this murder, like that of young Nicolas [victime la même nuit d’une balle mortelle devant une discothèque à Saint-Peray en Ardèche]there is the hand of the Marseille mafia. I confirm to you that there is the hand of the DZ Mafia behind the death of Nicolas and that, for the murder of the young man in Poitiers, there is another Marseille clan”he said on Sud Radio. “There is a form of export, a bit like a company, which from a base, from a completely gangrenous territory, is in the process of exporting and conquering, setting up branches all over medium-sized towns”assured Bruno Retailleau.
The 15-year-old boy killed “had no delinquency problems”Yasmina Djoudi, the lawyer for the young man’s mother, pointed out this weekend. According to her, the boy “told his mother that he was going to buy a sandwich before going home. And he got shot.”. Il “had absolutely nothing to do with drug trafficking”added, Monday, the environmentalist mayor of Poitiers, Léonore Moncond’huy, asking the Minister of the Interior to “restore the truth”.

**Interview with Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us, Minister Retailleau. The recent shooting in Poitiers that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four others, all minors, has raised significant concerns in the community. Can you provide us with the latest updates on this tragic incident?
**Bruno Retailleau:** Thank you for having me. Yes, it is indeed a tragic event that has shocked Poitiers and the nation. We have arrested a 25-year-old suspect believed to be the shooter, who has been indicted on multiple charges including murder and drug trafficking. He was already known to authorities for his involvement in drug-related crimes.
**Interviewer:** What can you tell us about the suspect’s background and his potential links to organized crime in the region?
**Bruno Retailleau:** The suspect has a history of violence and drug trafficking, particularly linked to the Marseille area. Investigations indicate that he might have been involved in narcotics sales in Poitiers’ Couronneries district, where the shooting took place. We believe this incident relates to local drug trafficking networks, which have been a growing concern.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned a Halloween event occurring at the time of the shooting. How many people were actually involved in the altercation that led to this violence?
**Bruno Retailleau:** Initially, I misspoke, suggesting that several hundred individuals were engaged in a brawl. In reality, only a few dozen were involved in brief scuffles, which the police were able to control quickly. The focus here must be on the fact that such violence is deeply concerning, especially when minors are present.
**Interviewer:** This incident seems to flash a spotlight on the broader issue of drug trafficking in France. What steps is the government considering to address this escalating problem?
**Bruno Retailleau:** We’re actively pursuing reforms to combat drug trafficking. This includes enhancing police resources, strengthening inter-agency cooperation, and implementing educational programs to deter youth involvement in drugs. It’s crucial that we tackle the root causes of violence linked to drug trade, not just the symptoms.
**Interviewer:** What message do you have for the community of Poitiers in light of this incident?
**Bruno Retailleau:** I want to assure the residents of Poitiers that we are fully committed to restoring safety and addressing the issues stemming from drug-related violence. It’s important for community members to remain vigilant and work with law enforcement to report any suspicious activity. We must come together to combat this menace.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, Minister Retailleau. We hope the community can find healing in the aftermath of this tragedy.
**Bruno Retailleau:** Thank you for having me. My thoughts are with those affected by this violence.
