A 24-year-old man, suspected of attempted murder and sexual assault on a jogger in Revelnear Toulouse on Thursday, was taken into police custody following being arrested on Friday evening in Sorèze in the Tarn by the gendarmes, reported The Midi Dispatch .
He allegedly confessed while in police custody.
Already known to justice
During the various hearings, the young man admitted to having strangled and sexually assaulted the jogger following having been refused by the 22-year-old young woman he was trying to approach, specifies France Blue Revel .
The man lives with his parents and would work in an establishment and work assistance service (ESAT) as a temporary landscaper, according to these media.
The individual would suffer from intellectual disability and would not seem to measure the seriousness of his acts, specifies moreover The Dispatch.
He is not known to justice for similar facts but his criminal record mentions an act of domestic violence in 2019, also reports local radio.
A violent assault
The victim was running along the greenway in Revel on Thursday evening when she was strangled by a man riding a bicycle as she stopped to catch her breath, reports The Dispatch. She was dragged behind a bush following losing consciousness. The man then sexually assaulted him, but the intervention of a walker allowed the jogger to escape.
After filing his complaint, the gendarmes went on a manhunt with the support of dogs, a helicopter and dozens of soldiers, the newspaper reports. The suspect was finally apprehended Friday evening in Sorèze, in the Tarn, by the gendarmes of the Villefranche-de-Lauragais research brigade.
Police custody was extended for 24 hours on Saturday. The suspect should be brought before the Toulouse court on Sunday followingnoon where he might be indicted by the Toulouse prosecutor’s office.
