However, this does not mean that they should be left out. Cats, like any pet, require various care such as visits to the vet, vaccination, and weight and height measurements to determine their physical conditions.

But in some cases, like that of Yulia Minina, a young Russian woman who lives in the mining town of Stary Oskol 618 kilometers from Moscow, a visit to the vet can be a big surprise.

Almost two years ago, the woman decided to buy a Maine Coon cat that she named Kefir, in honor of the dairy drink, and because of its impressive white and silky fur.

But he got a big surprise when he noticed that his pet had grown so much that, at just 22 months old, he weighed 12.5 kilos. Something really surprising considering that, according to the Animal Expert portal, male cats of this breed can weigh between 6 and 8 kg, and females between 4 and 6 kg, and their height can reach 41 cm and they can measure up to 100 cm long.

Kefir’s existence was made known through Instagram, where she has an account with more than 76,000 followers and her owner shares the best moments with her. “Kefir has not only grown in size, he is a very intelligent and affectionate cat and never loses his cool,” Yulia told The Sun, adding that she “never imagined that a cat could become so big.”

The woman also revealed to the aforementioned medium that, at night, Kefir had the habit of climbing on her, which made it increasingly difficult to sleep due to her large size. “Maine Coons grow up to 3 or 4 years old. So I think it should be even bigger,” she added.

“At two years and 10 months old, he may even be on his way to outgrowing his brother, the tallest domestic cat ever, who was named Arcturus and stood at 48.4 cm (19.05 inches) tall. ”, indicates the page of the famous records.

Fenrir’s height allows him to do things other cats can’t. For example, he may stand on his hind legs and touch a doorknob until it opens and “tends to steal things off the counter,” Powers says.
