The WHO reports more than 55 million people with dementia worldwide. While Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia and is even thought to be the cause of 60 to 70% of cases, cognitive decline is currently the seventh leading cause of death worldwide and one of the main causes of ‘disability. It often results fromvarious diseases and injuries that affect the brainAnd American researchers have found that olive oil may just be our best ally. Their findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition, held July 22-25, 2023 in Boston.
And we thus discover a reduction in mortality from dementia for people who regularly consume olive oil. Individuals who consumed more than half a tablespoon of olive oil per day had a 28% lower risk of dying from dementia, according to their results. Olive oil, in addition to its sunny notes, is said to be rich in brain-beneficial compounds, rich in antioxidants and more particularly in polyphenols, tocopherols and vitamin E.
