Statistical data on residential construction spending in 2022 show increases of 62% for new construction and 41% for renovation for the least populated administrative region listed. “The surprising Côte-Nord has by far the strongest growth in Quebec, ahead of Abitibi and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean,” says APCHQ director Paul Cardinal.
The Côte-Nord is once morest the current of the rest of Quebec, notes the Association of construction and housing professionals of Quebec in the light of information from the Institute of Statistics. Investments for new construction are down 7% across the province, mainly due to the situation in Montreal, Laurentides and Lanaudière.
Quebec recorded increases in renovation spending of 21%. The eastern regions are at the top of the charts for growth in renovation spending, namely Côte-Nord (+41%), Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean (+39%) and Gaspésie–Îles-de-France. -la-Madeleine (+38%).
Growing region, but…
With $23M spent in 2022 on new residential construction and $113M on renovations, the North Shore is progressing compared to 2021, but remains the region with the lowest investments in Quebec in these areas. In comparison, $100M was spent on new construction and $261M in Gaspésie in 2022, a region barely more populated than the Côte-Nord.
In Quebec, investments in new residential construction are down, but a new record has been set for renovations. It spent 39.1 billion dollars in 2022, an increase of 8% compared to 2021.
