Frédéric Clette is an astrophysicist, specialist in the sun at theRoyal Observatory of Belgium. Frédéric Clette studied physics at ULB. It was through contact with professor and solar physicist André Koeckelenbergh that his fascination with the star of the day was revealed.
He joined the Royal Observatory of Belgium in 1983, where he held various positions. He is currently in charge of the institution’s solar telescopes. Since the beginning of his career at the Royal Observatory of Belgium, Frédéric Clette has studied the multiple facets and “manifestations” of the sun, such as solar eclipses.
He participated in the SOHO space mission, and, in particular, in the operations of his EIT telescope from the NASA control center. He was also interested in radio signals from the Sun picked up at the Human station, managed by the Observatory, and was one of the first forecasters in the Observatory’s space weather center, set up in the 2000s.
