The sun, ally against climate crisis; promote the installation of panel systems

Ciudad Solar’s goal is to stop emitting 33,147 tons of carbon dioxide per year, the result of burning fossil fuels to generate electricity.

Mexico City is neither a generator nor of hydrocarbons, nor a producer of hydrocarbons, nor a generator of electricity, we are a consumerwe consume everything, we are great consumers and the way of generating that is seen from the Government of the Cities is that they are gradually integrated, the users themselves are integrated as generators, with the different mechanisms and that is where we are going to have a great generation capacity distributed among all sectors of the city”, said Alberto Valdés, Director of Development and Sustainability of Sedeco.

To do this, the two buildings of this dependency, located in Axis 1 Poniente Cuauhtémoc, already have their systems for capturing solar radiation that is transformed into electricity and supplies all the services of the building.

The energy of the sun that is transformed into electricity supplies the lighting, elevators, air conditioning, computers, printers, microwaves in the dining rooms and even recharges the cell phones of the employees.

Sedeco invested regarding three million pesos in the installation of more than 500 square meters of solar panels. But the savings in electricity payment reach up to 97 percent.

We managed to reduce from a payment of 50,000 pesos per month, for the two buildings, to 1,400 pesos per month”, said Alberto Valdés, director of Development and Sustainability of Sedeco.

The Ciudad Solar project already has some 1,548 reconstructed homes that have solar heaters and 160 businesses and small businesses have photovoltaic systems to generate their own electricity.

The project also contemplates installing solar panels in 300 public buildings so that they generate their own electricity and are self-sufficient.

In addition, the Government of Mexico City is in the process of installing the world’s largest solar panel system within an urban area.

It is the Solar Field in the Wholesale Marketwhich will have an installed capacity of 18 megawatts and will generate electricity equivalent to the consumption of 15,240 homes.

Fadlala Akabani, head of Sedeco, indicated that the project is being developed and will be ready by the end of 2022.

This will bring benefits, both to the environment and economics, it will be an investment of 400 million pesos, a production of 18 megawatts of capacity, with 36 thousand photovoltaic panels and that will bring savings, both in economic resources, and in avoiding generating pollution. for 12 thousand 404 tons of CO2 per year”, he said.
