For what will likely be its last match of this World Cup, the Wallabies ended on a positive note on Sunday, defeating Portugal (34-14).
Like an air of last stand. After two defeats against Fiji and Wales, Australia stopped the bleeding by winning against Portugal in their fourth group match (34-14), Sunday October 1, in Saint-Etienne. An improved victory which, however, may not be enough for the Wallabies to avoid the first elimination in their history before the final phase of a World Cup. Even if Fiji lose to the Lobos next weekend, they could qualify with the Welsh thanks to the bonus point.
A record which proves that the current 10th nation in the world still has work to do, as it will host the next edition in 2027. As proof, even the Portuguese managed to annoy the Australians by scoring the first try of the match by Pedro Bettencourt (12th, 3-7), before sinking when he received a yellow card.
