The Algerian presidency said in a statement: “His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq awarded the President of the Republic with the highest medal of the Sultanate of Oman, which is the Al Said Medal, which bears the name of the royal family, as stipulated.”
The statement indicated that this medal is “only worn by senior leaders, kings and presidents in the world,” explaining that the Sultan of Oman presented the medal to the Algerian president “to indicate the ties of brotherhood and great cooperation between them. He also presented him on this occasion with the famous Omani dagger.”
The Algerian presidency stated that President Tebboune, “for his part, awarded Sultan Haitham bin Tariq with a medal of honor from the National Merit Class, as an indication of the high fraternal spirit that unites them, and he also presented him with the ancient Algerian sword of the Felis.”
Earlier today, Tuesday, the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, received Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the Alam Sultani Palace, and during the reception 21 honorary artillery shots were fired.
Subsequently, the Algerian presidency announced that Tebboune will establish a qualitative partnership with Sultan Haitham, which is expected to open promising cooperation horizons in strategic areas and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Sultanate of Oman and Algeria signed 8 memorandums of understanding, related to organizing exhibitions, events and conferences, promoting investment and cooperation in the fields of higher education and scientific research.
For its part, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the historical and bilateral relations between the Sultanate and Algeria in various fields.
The Foreign Ministry published an article on its official website entitled “Omani-Algerian relations: past, present, and future,” in conjunction with Tebboune’s state visit, which will last for three days.
This visit represents a historic moment, as it is the first meeting between Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune since they both assumed power.
