The Sudanese army announces the defection of a senior commander in the “Rapid Support”

The army said in a statement, “Kikal, who was leading the Rapid Support Forces in central Sudan and whose forces were stationed in Al-Jazira state and parts of the neighboring states of Sennar and White Nile, sided with the truth and the homeland.”

Yesterday, Sunday, Sudanese media revealed that the commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Al-Jazira State, Abu Aqla Kikel, sided with the Sudanese army, along with a large number of his forces, known as the Butana Shield.

She stated that “the step was completed after a long negotiation in which several parties participated.”

Abu Aqla Muhammad Ahmed Kikel was appointed commander of the 1st Civil Infantry Division in Al-Jazira State, last December, by the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Muhammad Hamdan Daglo “Hemedti,” following the invasion of the state by the Rapid Support Forces.

Sudanese media outlets indicated that “Kikel remained in control of the Butana areas, and entered into many conflicts with the Rapid Support Forces in the region, especially Commander Qajah’s group, due to attacks and violations against the citizens of Butana, who are related to Kikel.”

The official spokesman for the army, Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, said in a statement, “Kikal sided with the truth.” In recent days, the Sudanese army carried out a military operation to reclaim areas in Sennar and Al-Jazira states, making slow progress.

According to reports, this progress came after the army moved from the defense phase to the offensive since last September 26.

Yesterday, Saturday, the Sudanese army continued its advance towards recovering the city of Dinder in Sennar State in southeastern Sudan, where it clashed with the Rapid Support Forces on the outskirts of the city.
