The game Borderlands first saw the light of day in 2009, and it was a rather run-of-the-mill shooter from the planet Pandora, but you won’t really find the blue heroes from Avatar in it. The world here is more reminiscent of Mad Max with slightly depraved characters and a strong sci-fi touch. All this with the support of special animation and a large portion of overview.

The film adaptation has basically been in preparation since 2015, and five years later, following long planning, it was put in charge of the more horror-oriented Eli Roth, the director of Hostel and the recent Thanksgiving Day. However, the filming did not go according to plan and, apart from the covid break, it was apparently not without other problems, which is why the premiere is waiting much longer than originally expected. Screenwriter Craig Mazin (The Last of Us, Chernobyl) gradually withdrew from the project and at the beginning in 2023, the film received reshoots, which, of course, were not in charge of Roth, but the director of the first Deadpool, Tim Miller. That is why speculation immediately arose as to whether Roth had been dismissed from the project following long delays, but this was denied by the studio at the time, saying that the director simply had to film the horror film Thanksgiving, but he is said to be still involved in the video game adaptation.

The first trailer introduces us to the tough treasure hunter played by Cate Blanchett, who returns to her home planet Pandora to find the missing daughter of the powerful villain Atlas. Therefore, he brings together an initially disparate group of renegades who have to fight their way through monsters and villains in order to find a girl on the planet who may have great power.

Borderlands: trailer | The Bontonfilm trailer presents us with a disparate group of heroes who will use humor and over-the-top action scenes to find their way to each other and at the same time will not be afraid to massacre their enemies properly. That is, of course, in a way accessible to the audience. The material may not be as off-the-cuff as game fans would like, but the creators obviously tried to create a video game version of Guardians of the Galaxy or last year’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor of Thieves. Which is a combination that might, under the right circumstances, work well as a blockbuster. The preview then goes more than promising, Cate Blanchett enjoys the role of a tough girl, and the audience is also interested in Jack Black, who lent his voice to the robot that announces. In short, it seems that this bunch of rebels and weirdos might still entertain despite the alleged whispering regarding problems. We will see the resulting film in theaters on August 8. Take a look at the ranking of the most anticipated films of the year.
