ALGIERS – The subsidized milk distribution card will be ready in September, said Thursday in Algiers, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abdelhafid Henni.
Speaking during a plenary session devoted to oral questions at the Council of the Nation, chaired by the vice-president of the Council, Salim Chenoufi, the minister indicated that the development of this map was made according to the number of inhabitants per municipalities and by wilayas, while taking into account the location of public and private dairies.
Supervised by an inter-ministerial commission, the card includes milk tracing mechanisms to avoid any possible deviation during distribution, he said.
Regarding the supply of the wilaya of Médéa, the minister specified that the wilaya had three dairies and benefited from subsidized milk powder with a monthly share of 362 tons, in addition to 127 additional tons granted during the month. of Ramadhan, and which continue to be distributed until now.
In addition, the minister mentioned a dossier to be submitted to the Government to “criminalize the anarchic slaughter of sheep at the level of unsupervised slaughterhouses and put in place a law governing this activity”.
In response to a question on the increase in fertilizer prices, Mr. Henni indicated that his ministry had put in place several mechanisms to control this situation, in the sense that the price benchmark was reviewed, and the prices of fertilizers widely used were subsidized before the 2021 and 2022 plowing-sowing season, in order to lighten the burden on farmers.
A reference price table has been established, in accordance with ministerial instructions, including the new fertilizer prices in 2021 and the insertion of potash fertilizer in the list of subsidized fertilizers, he recalled, noting that the fertilizer subsidy rate was increased to 50% instead of 20%, with the prioritization of local products.
In the same context, the Minister recalled the signing of an agreement with the “ASMIDAL” Group on a continuous multi-year program until 2025, and of an agreement between the Ministry of Energy and Mines and a foreign investor for the construction of a production plant for all types of potash fertilizers which will come into service at the beginning of 2024.
He also recalled all the efforts made with regard to the application of the compulsory control on the distribution of fertilizers and on the management of the needs of farms, like the realization of 17,500 km of electrical connection in 2022.
Mr. Henni mentioned the examination of the file of the production of maize for fertilizer whose “production exceeds consumption” according to the minister, and the taking “of the measures in the matter as soon as possible”.
In response to a question on the development of the area intended for acacia in Tindouf, the Minister indicated that the sector was in the process of developing a program of planting resistant and fruit trees, for which the subsidy for farmers amounts to 100%, while the rural engineering group (GGR) deals with the supply of trees and planting, irrigation and technical monitoring.
In this same context, a program for the protection and development of the acacia has been developed through a few establishments in the sector, as well as the preparation of a study by the national office of studies for rural development with a view to developing the plantation of this tree which currently occupies an overall area of 2,600,000 hectares, through 6 wilayas (Illizi, Tamenraseet, Tindouf, Bechar, Ghardaia and Adrar).
As for the development of the argan tree, the minister revealed the transfer of the National Argan Development Center to a “more appropriate place”.
