On Saturday, IMGW level 2 orange warnings are in force in Podkarpacie, with locally very heavy rainfall of up to 35 mm and wind gusts of up to 90 km/h. Locally, hail may fall. The alerts were in force from 1 p.m. and will be valid until at least 11 p.m. At around 2:45 p.m., a storm passed over Mielec and the surrounding area.

The Storm Observers Network showed a recording from a reader on social media, which showed a supercell thunderstorm passing through Mielec. “Unfortunately, it caused significant material damage in the city. The force of the storm was significant,” it emphasized. Among other things, power lines were torn down, the “Niebezpiecznie” channel reported. The wind also tore off pieces of roofing made of sheet metal.

“A fire alarm was raised at the SCK Cultural Center. The fire department intervened on site. No fire was found, the alarm was probably caused by a sudden drop in the voltage of the electrical network,” we read. Internet users were eager to share the effects of the storm online. One of them showed that a tree he remembers from his childhood had been uprooted. One of the trees fell on a residential building. Cars were also damaged.

The mayor spoke

“A storm forming in the vicinity of Brzostek, Ropczyce, Sędziszów Małopolski passed through the Mielec district. Strong wind, rain and hail brought considerable destruction to the Przecław Commune, Książnice, Goleszów and Bożeja Wola, as well as Mielec and the Padew Narodowa commune,” wrote the Starosta of the Mielec District.

“The PSP and OSP firefighters are still working to remove fallen trees, decorative elements, roofs, etc. So far, 60 reports for intervention have been received. On Monday, the commune will assess the damage, including to crops,” added Kazimierz Gacek.
