A quay on stilts has been damaged by the storm in Hasvik in Finnmark. Wreckage lies and floats in the sea and is washed up on land, writes NRK.
Mayor of Hasvik municipality, Lars Hustad, says that there is more damage to buildings and quay facilities along Sørøya.
In Øksfjord in Loppa municipality, the gangway to the quay facility for the medical transport boats has been destroyed. In addition, the road is closed in several places in the municipality due to high seas throwing stones up into the roadway.
In Honningsvåg in the North Cape, an environmental station had to close due to the danger of flying objects.
Delayed and canceled flights
The storm on Thursday has had consequences for air traffic in Tromsø. Flight departures at Tromsø Airport have occasionally been suspended. Icing and strong side winds cause trouble, writes Northern Lights.
– In Tromsø, they feel the storm well. Strong side winds and icing are the biggest challenges, said press officer Carita Storm Røsaasen in Avinor to NTB at 11.30am.
This has led to delays on both outgoing and incoming flights.
The rest of Troms has also felt the storm. County road 7952 on Uløya was closed at 12 o’clock after a motorist reported that parts of the road had been destroyed, writes Northern Lights.
Parts of the road were simply washed away by high waves.
Many danger warnings
The storm won’t let up anytime soon.
– There will be a lot of weather this weekend, says on-duty meteorologist Marit Berger to NTB.
A low pressure has led to the strong gusts of wind in parts of Nordland, Troms and Finnmark in recent days. There has also been a lot of snow. This low pressure is now moving away from Norway, but will be replaced by a new low pressure that will hit Trøndelag and Nordland on Friday.
– It is to blame for all the danger warnings throughout the weekend, says Berger.
Because there is no shortage of danger warnings. With the new low pressure comes mild weather and a lot of rain, which has a number of consequences.
Lots of rain, and danger of floods and landslides
In parts of Salten, Ofoten, Lofoten and Sør-Troms, 50-65 millimeters of rain can fall from Friday to Saturday and up to 65-120 millimeters in the far south.
A yellow warning has been issued.
The mild weather also causes the snow to melt, and in several places particularly large water flows and water levels are expected for the time of year. There is a risk of flooding in Nordland and Sør-Troms from Friday. In Ofoten and Nordland north of Rana, the danger is great.
Water flow will increase rapidly in streams and rivers.
– This can lead to extensive flooding, erosion damage and flood damage in exposed locations, states the notice from varsom.no.
Parts of Nordland and the south of Troms can also expect several landslides. There is a great danger of both landslides, mudslides and floods already from Thursday evening.
– Some may have major consequences, and exposed buildings may be affected, according to varsom.no.
Snøfokk in southern Norway
In addition, high water levels are expected – very high in Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal.
On Saturday, the low pressure will start to move towards Sweden, and then it will gradually get cooler in this country. This brings with it new challenges.
– Then we will get snowpack in the mountains in southern Norway, and there will be a lot of wind in central Norway, says Berger.
A yellow danger warning has been issued for wind gusts of up to 33 meters per second for outer areas of Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag from Saturday morning to Saturday evening.
