The storm hit the Rif sports center badly

Operations on the ULSZ Rif’s outdoor facilities are at a standstill: the storm blew up a high jump mat and parts of the grandstand building and fences were damaged.

No contemplative Christmas peace in the ULSZ Rif: The storm on Saturday night caused serious damage to the most important training facility for Salzburg sports. ULSZ managing director Sabrina Rohrmoser reported: “A high jump mat from the athletics facility was blown away. Fallen trees caused damage to the container village, a number of fences were torn down. Panels from the PV system also fell down.”

But the most important thing is that no one was harmed. On Saturday morning, employees of the sports center were still assessing the damage. The track of the athletics facility, which was only completely renovated in 2020, remained intact.

The outdoor areas are closed to operations until further notice.

The ULSZ Rif is the training home for thousands of professional and recreational athletes. As the location of the Salzburg Olympic Center and the Army Sports Center, the center is home to numerous local sports stars such as Olympic champion Thomas Geierspichler, the ski jumping team led by Stefan Kraft, and alpine athletes such as Mirjam Puchner.
