The internet connection is still slow! Your router shows only one bar? Despite your best efforts, the connection leaves something to be desired. It is also possible that the house itself is obstructing the waves or that interference is disturbing the signal of your box or your WI-Fi router. Do you seriously need to boost the signal? Do not panic ! The solution exists! A Wi-Fi repeater, made from salvaged items. The result will leave you speechless!
Here’s how to proceed: a diagnosis, tests, an hour of your time and it will be fixed!
Are you sure you have done everything to optimize your Wi-Fi connection?
If this is the case and the problem persists: several solutions exist. The first is to buy a wifi repeater. It will serve as a relay. The second is to pass the WI-Fi through your electrical network, using CPL sockets (carrying current on power lines). The experience is satisfactory if your electrical installation is reliable.

It’s possible to increase the range of the signal, thanks to a home Wi-Fi repeater
Known as the “Ricoré” Wi-Fi repeater, named following the famous hot drink, this trick allows you to amplify the signal by recovering the can containing the soluble coffee. If you managed to achieve objects with your hangers, or by collecting other materials, it will be easy for you! This low-cost homemade directional antenna will take you an average of an hour, a box, a CD and some cables.
A Wi-Fi amplifier studied, tested and “approved”.
This home-made solution does not seem serious to you: think once more, the “Ricoré” repeater has succeeded in proving its worth. On YouTube channels, everyone has their comments. Note that the size of the box is very important. Budding physicists have measured, calculated, listed and published everything on the net. This home repeater can “multiply” the power of your router.
What You Need to Make Your Home Wi-Fi Repeater Amplifier
To achieve this, here is what you will need:
- UnCD;
- A USB Wi-Fi adapter;
- A Ricoré can, preferably large;
- A classic portable tripod;
- A pan lid that goes in the oven;
- Different materials: screws, strong glue, tools for drilling, cutting and gluing.
Take all your precautions to make your repeater. You may burn or cut yourself, not to mention the problems that using the strong glue might cause. Also know that waves can be a problem to certain family members.
Step 1: prepare the bottom of the amplifier
We have to heat the CD for it to take shape. It will bend when heated in the oven. Use the lid or the dish, the grid is not enough. No preheating, otherwise the CD may be damaged, the film may peel off.
Having immediately taken the CD out of the oven, press down on its center using a heat-resistant object to give it a parabolic shape, then let it cool.
Step 2: Assemble the amplifier with CD and tin box
- Cut a hole in the side of the box near the bottom edge. Install the USB socket. Another hole is to be drilled at the bottom of the box, for the second cable.
- Your parabolic-shaped CD is to be glued inside, using hot glue. The hole in the CD should be level with the hole in the box wall.
Step 3: connect the box to your router
The plug of the Wi-Fi adapter is pushed into the hole in the CD. Just connect it to the Wi-Fi cable output of your computer. Finally, install everything on the tripod so that it acts as a support.

As you can see, the signal is now excellent and your Wi-Fi repeater obviously has something to do with it! A little of your time, scrap materials, ingenuity and voila. With, as a bonus, the pride of having come out of it alone!
