The size of the toll fees will depend on the kilometers traveled by the trucks, the acting Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Ivan Shishkov, told BNT today. He recalled that the fee increase was postponed once to work out a fair mechanism

The increase in the amount of toll fees was scheduled for January 1, 2023, but at its last meeting last year, the Council of Ministers decided to postpone a change in the methodology for their formation to July 1, 2023. The goal was not to burden business additionally in conditions of high inflation, as well as giving companies more time to adjust to rising costs.

For Shishkov, the decision to introduce different rates depending on the kilometers driven by drivers is fair enough. “Those who drive less on our roads will effectively pay more than those who travel more kilometers. Those trucks that mainly supply our stores will effectively pay a lower toll and those in transit will pay a higher fee”, emphasized the minister.

He believes that the decision can no longer be postponed. “It is logical for people who use a certain infrastructure to pay for it so that it can be self-financed and sustain itself,” he argued.
