The overall revenues of the State of Senegal for the month in question are estimated at 247.1 billion, down 2.1% compared to 252.4 billion the previous month.

Statistical data for November 2023 indicate an increase in turnover in the commerce sector (+4.5%), contrasting with the decline in services (-1.0%) compared to the previous month. The contraction in service turnover is mainly attributed to the decline in sectors such as “Real Estate Activities” (-78.8%), “Accommodation and Catering” (-7.5%), “ Financial and insurance activities” (-4.9%) and “Information and Communication” (-4.0%). The increase in turnover in the trade sector is supported by the solid performance of “Trade and repair of automobiles and motorcycles” (+10.3%), “Retail trade” (+5.1% ) and “Wholesale trade” (+1.8%).

In November 2023, consumer prices decreased by 1.2% compared to the previous month, mainly due to the drop in prices of “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” (-2.5%) and, in a to a lesser extent, “Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics” (-0.2%). On an annual basis, prices increased by 0.9%. Regarding industrial production, prices increased by 0.4% compared to the previous month (following 1.6% the previous month). Export prices increased by 1.1% in November 2023 compared to the previous month, while import prices decreased by 1.4% over the same period. This situation led to a 2.5% improvement in the terms of trade compared to October 2023, from 0.91 to 0.94.

Regarding the trade balance, the trade deficit for the month in question is estimated at 452.4 billion CFA francs, compared to 362.5 billion CFA francs the previous month, an increase of 89.9 billion CFA francs. compared to the previous month. This situation results from the drop in exports (-9.2 billion) and the increase in imports (+80.7 billion) over the same period. The drop in the value of exports is due to the drop in exports of petroleum products (-20.6 billion), titanium (-2.6 billion) and phosphoric acid (-1.8 billion). Regarding imports, the increase is attributable to the increase in imports of transport equipment (+33.4 billion), metalworks (+24.1 billion), pharmaceutical products (+5.0 billion) as well as wheat and meslin (+4.8 billion), partly offset by the drop in rice imports (-14.8 billion).

Regarding public finances, the total revenue of the State of Senegal for November 2023 is estimated at 247.1 billion CFA francs, compared to 252.4 billion CFA francs the previous month, a decrease of 2.1 %. This decline is due to the reduction in tax revenue (-6.5 billion) partially offset by the good performance of non-tax revenue (+1.4 billion). On an annual basis, total state revenue decreased by 11.8%. For the month in question, the payroll in the public service decreased by 0.8% compared to the previous month, although the workforce increased by 0.2%. On an annual basis, the workforce and payroll in the civil service increased by 6.5% and 4.9% respectively.
