On this occasion, a two-day workshop was organized to introduce this Mediterranean project, which combines the encouragement of economy and respect for environmental standards, especially through sustainable tourism and the blue economy, known as (Reboot Med), i.e. reviving, experimenting and encouraging ecotourism on the western front of the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean project brings together 15 partners from France, Spain, Tunisia, Italy, Mauritania and Morocco, who are represented by the Regional Tourism Council of Tetouan and the Regional Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services.

The project aims to encourage partnership between the public and private sectors in defining action plans and in order to support tourism within the framework of the blue economy.

This pilot project supports the incubation and piloting of ecotourism in ten pilot sites in six western Mediterranean countries, including the Tetouan-Oued Lao coast and the Al Hoceima National Park, in addition to creating job opportunities in the specialized ecotourism market.

During this workshop, presentations, research and experiences of a group of countries in the Mediterranean basin and beyond were presented in the field of sustainable tourism and the blue economy, such as the Spanish experience in the Balearic Islands, which attracts 16 million tourists annually, the French experience in Corsica and the experience of the city of Grosseto in the Tuscany region of Italy. .

Other examples were also presented, including the Tunisian experience in Ghar El Melh and Tabarka, which was led by the WWF Regional Office in North Africa, in addition to the Mauritanian experience in Diaulin National Park.

By the way, the head of the regional chamber, Abdellatif Afilal, highlighted that the region possesses natural and tourism potentials that are not invested in the required manner in the blue economy.

Afilal added, in a statement to the M24 news channel of the MAP, that the Chamber decided to organize this event in order to learn regarding global experiences in the field of sustainable tourism and the blue economy, and why not transfer these experiences to our region, to get out of the seasonality that characterizes tourism in this region.

He pointed out that sustainable tourism and the blue economy would create job opportunities on a continent, especially for rural communities, and would contribute to the appreciation and development of regional products, traditional industries and marine crafts.

It is noteworthy that the “Reboot Med” project, which the Chamber has launched in the Tetouan region, will extend for 24 months, and seeks to encourage partnership between the public and private sectors, as the participants in this event will carry out field visits to various tourist sites in the region, to be crowned with a committee meeting. The strategy and steering committee of the project, in order to prepare proposals for its implementation.
