Next week, the Sudanese parties will begin a direct dialogue to resolve the current political crisis in the country.
This came according to what was announced by the tripartite mechanism that includes the African Union, the United Nations Integrated Mission to Support the Transitional Phase in Sudan (IGAD), and the Intergovernmental Authority for the Development of East African Countries (UNITAMS).
The Mechanism said, in a statement, that it held a consultative meeting yesterday with the Military Quartet, headed by the Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, and in the presence of Lieutenant-General Shams El-Din Kabbashi and Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Jaber.
According to the statement, the meeting, which was characterized by a positive and constructive spirit, dealt with consultations on issues related to direct talks between the Sudanese stakeholders, the expected stakeholders during the next week, with a view to restoring constitutional rule, meeting the aspirations of the people for a civil democratic transition, and building a new Sudan.
The statement stressed that “on the eve of the third anniversary of the General Command’s sit-in dispersal on June 3, the tripartite mechanism calls on the authorities to respect and protect the right to peaceful assembly and to refrain from the unjustified use of violence once morest peaceful demonstrators, in a manner that would enhance the enabling environment for the political process in the country.” The tripartite mechanism called on all parties to maintain the peaceful nature of the commemoration of the sit-in dispersal.
The “tripartite mechanism” had led indirect talks between the Sudanese parties as part of efforts aimed at resolving the severe political crisis in the country since the decisions of the army chief, head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued on October 25, which dissolved the government and imposed a state of emergency and freezing some Articles of the constitutional document.
