US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that banning other Chinese apps, including TikTok, is being considered.
While giving an interview to Fox News, he said that the popular video app Tik Tok will also come under the ban. 315 million people downloaded the TikTok app in the first three months of 2020 in the US.
Lawmakers in the United States have expressed concerns over the use of TikTok by consumers. He said he was worried about Chinese laws requiring private companies to cooperate with intelligence agencies there.
Earlier, US Navy officers with official mobile phones were banned from using Tik Tok.
Army officers or personnel using government-issued mobile phones are not allowed to use the video app TikTok due to the risk of cyber-attacks.
The US military is worried that the company that owns the application TikTok could create problems. Although there is currently no evidence of any suspicious activity on the part of the said company, it is possible that in the future, this company may provide the Chinese government with military information that could be helpful in recruiting spies.
