The fast food sector faces major challenges related to food safety, especially in light of the recent recording of several cases of food poisoning, some of which led to deaths.

In light of this situation, many consumer protection organizations have sounded the alarm, calling on the state to tighten control over fast food shops in order to ensure the quality of food products and protect the lives of citizens.

With the approach of the global sporting events that will be hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco, these events believe that the biggest challenge facing the authorities is improving the quality and safety of fast food, as well as what restaurants and cafes offer, stressing the need to intensify and combine efforts between the government, the private sector and civil society.

The same events stress that Morocco’s success in hosting these global sporting events depends not only on the stadiums and infrastructure, but also on its ability to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for millions of visitors, including providing quality food that reflects authentic Moroccan hospitality.

In response to this issue, the Insaf Association for Consumer Protection revealed that it is following with great concern the current situation of the fast food sector in Morocco, especially with the country approaching the date of hosting major international sporting events.

The association, through its president Marwan Qaraab, explained that the recent food poisoning incidents are ringing the alarm bell and require urgent and decisive intervention from the relevant authorities, calling on the government and relevant public institutions to tighten control over fast food outlets throughout Morocco and to implement penalties against violators.

In addition, the spokesman called on the National Office for Food Safety to adopt periodic and surprise inspections of these stores to protect the consumer, while stressing that consumer protection associations are required, in turn, to organize awareness campaigns for consumers on how to choose safe restaurants and stores and avoid health risks.

On the other hand, the same human rights activist called on citizens to report any violations they notice in fast food shops and other restaurants in general, stressing that improving the quality and safety of food products in general, and especially fast food, is a shared responsibility between the government, shop and restaurant owners, and consumers.
