Japan reported 456 Covid-19 deaths on Friday as the spread of the virus intensified. This is the highest daily figure ever.
There was concern that the spread of Covid would increase with the New Year celebrations. So far, 2,45,542 cases have been reported in Japan.
On Thursday, 20,720 people were infected in Tokyo. The death toll has risen sharply since November. In December, the number of Covid-19 deaths reached 7688. Most of the dead are over 80 years old. The Covid death rate in the last three months is 16 times higher than the same period last year.
