Two accidents took place on Thursday evening in Flémalle, with one being particularly dramatic. A vehicle was travelling along the Meuse quays in the direction of Liège towards Flémalle and hit an obstacle, ending up in a nearby sports hall. Witnesses claim that the car was travelling at a speed far exceeding the 90 km/h limit. The driver was the only person involved and was taken out of the car with a vital prognosis. The second accident involved a van that collided with a truck on the E42 motorway, causing significant traffic delays. Despite the extrication of the driver, he was only slightly injured.
Two accidents occurred this Thursday at the end of the day on the Flémalle entity… including one at the start of the evening, which was particularly impressive.
A vehicle which was traveling along the quays of the Meuse, near Flémalle in the direction of Liège towards Flémalle, indeed hit an obstacle… and ended its race in a sports hall. In this case, the Louis Melin sports hall, located at the entrance to the town of Flémalle, at the intersection of quai Destrée and rue du Passeur d’eau.
If the exact circumstances of the accident have yet to be established, witnesses to the scene mentioned a car traveling on the platform at a relatively high speed… much more than the limit set at 90 km / h on this axis. Some even mention the speed of 200 km/h…
Arriving at the roundregarding, he therefore hit the edge of the latter, which would have caused the “take-off” … and the landing in the sports hall. As we can see in the first images, the edge of the roundregarding would have literally served as a springboard, throwing the vehicle into the air at an impressive speed.
The Liège firefighters were notified and quickly intervened to take care of the driver, the only one involved and the only one injured. A miracle when you know that young people were training at this time… The driver was taken out of the vehicle with a vital prognosis.
Another accident on the E 42
Shortly before this fact, another accident occurred in the entity of Flémalle… with less serious consequences, however, since the driver would only be slightly injured. It was while driving on the E 42 motorway near Flémalle that a vehicle, a van registered in Poland, would not have seen the truck signaling work. Truck he rammed. The driver was quickly taken care of by the emergency services, an extrication was necessary. This accident caused large queues on the E 42.
These two accidents in Flémalle serve as a reminder of the importance of following traffic rules and being cautious on the road. The first accident, which was particularly impressive, might have easily resulted in fatalities if it weren’t for the quick response of emergency services. We hope that all those involved in the accidents make a speedy recovery and that everyone else takes caution while driving to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
