The first result is more reasonable than the unprofessional preparation would have suggested. Although the SPÖ did not set any hurdles at all for the application for the party chairmanship and then set carelessly low hurdles, ultimately only the favored trio of Pamela Rendi-Wagner, Hans Peter Doskozil and Andreas Babler remained in the running. This will be due to the effort of scraping together 30 declarations of support as a nobody – but also to later insight that the member survey is too important for fruitless self-portrayal. If there was a plan – as suspected by opponents of Rendi-Wagner – to ridicule the vote with a flood of candidates, then this failed.
