The Speaker of the Seimas supports raising prosecutors’ salaries in two stages

“I support the compromise proposal of the committee (the State Government and Municipalities Committee of the Seimas – BNS), the committee looked very deeply into all the proposals, the arguments of all sides, and I think it assessed both the state’s capabilities and needs,” V. The committee last week approved a proposal that prosecutors’ salaries should average 75 percent in 2024 and 90 percent in 2025. salaries of judges, as the Prosecutor’s Office seeks.

Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos”, which offers prosecutors’ salaries up to 90%. to raise the salaries of judges from next year, leader Saulius Skvernelis says that if the Seimas did not support such a proposal, the fraction would support the committee’s decision.

“I think that it should enter into force immediately, from January 1 next year, but if the Seimas rejects our proposals, then we will agree to that compromise option, still something in that direction, not immediately, but in that direction,” – on Thursday S. Skvernelis told journalists in the Seimas.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said last week that the Government would support the proposal to increase the salaries of prosecutors more and in two stages.

The second reading of the 2024 state budget will be held in the Seimas on Thursday.
