Jose Negrera’s lawyer announced, on Tuesday, that the referee accused of obtaining funds from Barcelona suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, which stands in the way of his sitting on the bench in the event that the Public Prosecutor’s Office brings the case before a judge.
And the investigations of the Public Prosecutor in Catalonia revealed earlier that the former Barcelona club’s board of directors, headed by Josep Bartomeu, paid a bribe to Jose Negrera, former vice-chairman of the Referees Committee of the Spanish Football Federation, while the current president, Joan Laporta, confirmed that he would sue those who try to tarnish the club’s image through such news. .
Radio Cadena Sir revealed that Bartomeu’s administration paid money to a company called “Dasnel 95” headed by former Spanish referee Jose Maria Negrera and former vice-chairman of the Referees Committee, and that the club’s management paid 1,400,000 euros to the company during Bartomeu’s presidency.
Negrira held his position in the Spanish Football Federation from 1994 to 2018, and reports from the Barcelona Public Prosecution Office revealed that the club paid the amount between 2016 and 2018.
The newspaper “El Espanol” reported that Negrera may not bear criminal responsibility in the event that the prosecution opens investigations into the payments, before a judge from Barcelona, and Alzheimer’s disease might cause the former referee not to sit in the indictment seat.
