The Spanish press scratches Mbappé: “He preferred three more zeros to the right of his bank account than three Ballons d’Or”

It’s done, end of the saga. Kylian Mbappé has made his choice and will therefore extend for three additional seasons at PSG. On the Real side, it’s a gray mine, since a verbal agreement had been established for some time with the player and it was a priority for next season.

Following the announcement of his extension to PSG, which the media echoed on Saturday followingnoon, the Spanish press was quick to react. And she was not very tender with Mbappé. Thus, the Madrid newspaper Marca sees in this choice of the French striker “the biggest strategic mistake of his career”which reflects alack of self-esteem”. As Marca writes, quoted by the newspaper L’Equipe, “Kylian Mbappé’s impact at PSG is infinitely less than it would be at Real Madrid. For now, he plays in a semi-clandestine league, which in Spain is watched on two regional channels.” The Spanish media, which takes stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Kaka as examples, adds: “Everyone understood that beyond titles, the door that gave them access to immortality was Real Madrid.”

The daily AS is also critical of the French player. “Mbappé has shown that between his wallet and his childhood dream, he prefers the wallet. He remains the richest footballer in the world, but at the same time the poorest in sporting terms. He preferred three more zeros to the right of his bank account than three Ballons d’Or and three Champions Leagues”, declares the Spanish media, quoted by L’Equipe. “Kylian, I’m sorry for you. You will always be a loser from now on”even concludes the AS journalist.

The Catalan press mocks

Note that on the side of the Catalan press, the reversal of the situation of the soap opera Mbappé is mentioned in a more “mocking” way. Mundo Deportivo thus evokes “a blow to all those who sold the bear skin before killing it”, referring to the fact that on the side of Real, we had been too sure of ourselves concerning the signing of the attacker. The Catalan media also carves the president of Real, ironically qualified as a“to be greater”: “Real, in search of the striker since 2017, find themselves once once more without the Galactico whose Florentino Pérez hoped to make the big star of the new Bernabeu”points the newspaper.

Also quoted by L’Equipe, Sport ironically points to the situation, referring to the Madrid club’s recent failures: “Neither one nor the other: neither Haaland nor Mbappé. Real Madrid’s failure in this transfer market will go down in the history books.”
