The Spanish Federation punishes Atletico Madrid by closing its stadium for 3 matches

Spain – The Spanish Football Federation announced, yesterday, Wednesday, the imposition of a partial closure of Ciftas Metropolitano Stadium, the home of Atletico Madrid, for three matches following the riots that took place in the match between Atletico and Real Madrid in the Spanish League.

The federation wrote on its official website: “The Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation announced on Wednesday the decisions reached in relation to the eighth round of the league match and the events that took place last Sunday, at the Civitas Metropolitano Stadium between Club Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.”

He continued: “The Disciplinary Committee decided to impose a penalty of partial closure of the stadium for three matches after referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer announced the temporary suspension of the match, in the 64th minute, as the protocol related to throwing objects and issuing advance warnings of suspension was applied on two occasions.”

This penalty will apply to Atletico Madrid when it hosts Leganes, Las Palmas and Alaves in the next three league rounds at its home stadium, and the club will also have to pay a fine of 45,000 euros.

The match between Atletico and Real Madrid was temporarily stopped at Civitas Metropolitano Stadium, after fans in the southern stand threw projectiles on the field and towards Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, after defender Eder Militao scored the goal to put the visitors ahead.

After a pause that lasted more than 20 minutes, the players returned to the field to resume the match again, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
