The Spanish Federation announces it: fewer penalties and more playing time!

Significant adjustments to the performance of referees in Spain.

Medina Cantalejo, head of the arbitration committee of the Spanish Football Federation, stressed his quest to reduce the number of penalty kicks awarded in local tournaments.

This came in statements carried by the newspaper “AS”, during which he stressed the need to take several fateful decisions to help players and clubs to provide better football.

Cantalejo said: “We will try to reduce the penalty kicks. We asked the referees not to blow the whistles if the player is in a non-threatening area and without the support of his teammates.”

He added: “We told them that the player has to be in a state of complete balance and that the touch is very clear, and that the referee and assistant see it.”

And he added: “We will try to protect the players with all our ability and to the maximum degree. No player can be injured without seeing him on the field or through replays.”

And he concluded his words: “Since last November, we have succeeded in increasing the actual playing time by regarding 32%, we insist that there is less talk on the field, where the violation is calculated and each player takes his place and we resume playing.”

It is worth noting that the Spanish League begins on Friday, August 12, and will continue until the beginning of next summer, due to the disruption of the Qatar 2022 World Cup to the events of the season.
