Voters in Castile and Leon, an autonomous region in northwestern Spain, go to the polls this Sunday, February 13, for early legislative elections. The España Vaciada movement, which aims to be the voice of forgotten territories, arouses the curiosity of the Spanish press.
“The Spain of the Void” will it weigh in the ballot box? This is one of the main questions before the early regional elections in Castile and León, this Sunday, February 13. The ballot had been called by the regional president, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco (PP, right), following a split with his partners in the autonomous government, Ciudadanos (center right), in December.
If the polls promise victory to the PP, ahead of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), the national press is carefully watching the first electoral steps of España Vaciada. This political movement intends to give a voice to abandoned territories.
Nationally, España Vaciada brings together 170 citizen platforms. For this Sunday’s election, it presents a candidate in four of the nine provinces of Castile and Leon (Burgos, Palencia, Salamanca and Valladolid), while “his first cousin”, Soria ¡ Ya!, is the formation that has the best chance of grabbing two or three seats (out of 81) in the regional parliament, to represent the province of Soria, assures the newspaper The country.
