A whooping sound during the performances. Beyond the tracks, drama bells are ringing. The play ‘Thudi’ presented by the theater lovers of Palakkad Railway Division continues to gain many prizes. The play exposes the history of a marginalized group of people. The play is predicated on the brutality of “Karu Nithithal” which existed in ancient Kerala. Kandan and his daughter Neeli, who were left helpless without a word of opposition to the orders of the authorities and thambaras. His voice is the cry of time. The same continuity as his cane, tears and sweat. The mirror that returns to him. The play begins with Kandan dancing before the clan deity Cherunili and Neeli stepping to the beat of his father. At Neeli’s insistence, Kandan narrates the story of his wife Panchami being sacrificed alive. At the end of the story, Neeli is menstruating. As part of the ritual, Kandan bows before the clan deity. Stating that untouchables have no right to tie or worship. Lords saw Kandan and Nili and their gods knocking over and disrupting their rituals. Neely, who sees his father denied the right to soil, honor and God, insists on singing the rhythm of his father’s heart, “Tudi’kotti” and reclaiming his identity. In this thudi, a call to war led by a marginalized group of people to cry out once morest the ruling class, the trumpet, some direct notes left unspoken by the previous generations who worshiped soil, stone and nature. ‘Remember everything… There is only one thing left, Father’s lap. Father, please sing this lap, and everyone will be with us.’ The dream of tomorrow lies in the remaining hope.
