For her first work, the Chamblyenne delves into the emotions of love between adolescents. A story that can very well get complicated.

The butterflies in the stomach, the sweet words and shy looks. Love in adolescence can be summed up as a very beautiful story, but like many of them, it often ends badly. La cantatrice, the first book by Isabelle Marcoux, deals with the relationship between Mélina Cossette and Éric Savoie, in the very particular context of Quebec at the end of the 1970s, two years after the election of the Parti Québécois.

Talk to someone

A trained musician, the author gave her heroine the profile of a singer. Music is never far away. “She is even a classical music singer,” insists the Chambly artist. Isabelle Marcoux signed her first work there. But she doesn’t intend to stop there. “I’ve been thinking about this book for 18 years! I thought about it a lot! Finally, I got back into it over the last four years. This novel is the first in a trilogy. The heroine will grow up and experience other important stages of life. »

Although she is releasing her first novel now, Isabelle Marcoux has always written. “I even wrote a story when I was a teenager, but I ultimately threw it in the trash,” she smiles. I started writing when I started reading. I even wrote little stories about people I knew. I also maintained my diary. It felt good to talk to someone who wasn’t listening to me. I did it for me. »

The dramatic work is reserved for a romantic audience. “It is for ages 16 and over,” explains Isabelle Marcoux. The scene even takes place in the late 70s. Older people will be able to relive the context with an ounce of nostalgia. »
